Introducing Boulevard Duo: Beautiful Payments Hardware By Design

At Boulevard, we believe that simple solutions require the most sophistication, and we design every detail to delight our partners and their discerning clientele. After over a year of research, design and testing, I’m excited to announce our entrance into the world of payments hardware with the release of Boulevard Duo.

Why Custom Payments Hardware?

For businesses on legacy technology, the checkout process following an appointment is universally dreaded by both service providers and their clients alike. Too often, it involves worrying about cash or mental math for gratuity, purchasing retail products, fiddling with clunky credit card terminals, and pre-booking the next appointment. All while there are multiple clients behind also waiting to be checked out.  While having a modern, integrated POS can avoid most of the awkwardness, businesses are left with limited options for credit card readers. After looking all over for potential hardware solutions that our partners would be proud to display at their front desk, we came up short and realized we’d need to build it ourselves. And so we set out to marry function and form in a meaningful way to provide a seamless, sophisticated checkout experience.

Beautiful On The Inside And Out

Inside Duo, you'll find state-of-the-art EMV and NFC technology for accepting chip cards and contactless payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay. It’s paired with the latest version of Bluetooth v4.2 for an encrypted, lightning-fast connection and powered by a lithium ion rechargeable battery with enough juice to process over 500 transactions on a single charge. Given that magnetic stripe cards and the need for collecting signatures are being phased out by the card brands, we decided on a smaller footprint without a swipe reader. A feature unique to the Boulevard Duo is the portable sliding top, which enables payments to be collected beyond the front desk.

And because Duo syncs with Boulevard’s platform, we can alleviate back-end payroll complexity and enable businesses to quickly and easily reconcile bank deposits with all their appointments and sales history in one convenient place.
